Beth Russell

Dr. Russell joined the faculty of UConn Waterbury as an Assistant Professor of Human Development &  Family Studies in 2011 and, in 2012, was awarded a UConn Service Learning Fellowship. She teaches HDFS 3343: Family Life Education as a Service Learning course, in which students complete up to 50 hours of on-site work in a range of human service agencies.  These include Waterbury Youth Services, Waterbury Department of Public Health, several after-school mentoring programs, and many poverty remediation programs in central Connecticut. Her research focuses on human development in the context of close relationships. In particular, she studies the development of coping skill and self-control from birth to adulthood, emphasizing the contribution of parenting.
